Council for healthcare regulatory excellence

Strong, confident, independent influence within health regulation

Council

CHRE’s governing body is its Council. The Council is made up of 19 members:

  • 9 members nominated from each of the regulatory bodies (usually their president)
  • 10 members who do not belong to any of the regulated healthcare professions. They are also called ‘public members’. Of these, seven are selected by the NHS Appointments Commission, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each nominate a member.

The structure of the Council will change during 2008-09 due to proposed arrangements for healthcare regulation in the Health and Social Care Bill, which will go through parliament during summer 2008. The Bill proposes a smaller Council. There will no longer be representatives from the regulators on the Council.
